Security
In light of the tragic events at Virginia Tech, I think it's really important that we talk seriously about security issues on campus. Right now 53rd-55th on Kimbark is not lit. There is no reason this needs to be the case. What security improvements would you like to see on campus?

More and better lighting, yes! (Especially when it's dark early so much of the year in Chicago!)And more presence on the street. Maybe some designated safe havens?
There is no doubt that this is a dangerous neighborhood. I see Uchicago police every day, but I'm sure that Vtech also had police cars running around the campus every day also. The presence of police cars alone isn't making me feel safe anymore. The fact that the school isn't doing anything to speak to the students about a sense of community...that's also not helping. We actually have a great lack of community related events...Vtech has a bunch of sporting events that get thousands riled up, and STILL had a shooter...we at UChicago, we're famous for having loner students who study all the time and we're also famous for not having enough events, parties, etc etc. I'm literally scared to be in campus these days. Maybe the faculty/students all should be more sensitive about the stress level going on in this campus, and not just say "oh that's a good point" and toss the idea away but actually act on it. I don't want a shooter showing up at the reg or crerar and killing a bunch of my friends and I. After all, who'd deny that the students at this school are not stressed out? Something needs to be done...pronto.
